"Animal Farm" by George Orwell is a satirical allegorical novella that critiques totalitarianism, particularly the Soviet Union under Stalin. The story depicts a group of farm animals who, tired of their human farmer's oppressive rule, rebel and establish their own society based on principles of equality and freedom, summarized by the commandment "All animals are equal." However, as the pigs, led by Napoleon and Snowball, gradually seize power, the ideals of the revolution are corrupted. The novella powerfully illustrates how power can corrupt, how propaganda and manipulation can control the masses, and how revolutionary ideals can devolve into a new form of tyranny, ultimately revealing that "all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."
